The average home price for the area jumped 5.2% from last year to $392,500. "Higher home values mean more revenue from property taxes," commented Ada Ferrell, chair of the Drosser Housing Authority Board. "The city will be able to generate extra funding for its social services." However, Ms. Ferrell pointed out that the trend also poses problems for individual households. "Some homeowners will struggle to pay their higher property tax bill," she said. "Moreover, we know that rent prices have risen correspondingly in the past year, increasing the burden on rental tenants. Rent is becoming an increasingly large share of their living costs."
